Early detection and diagnosis of most of the occupational diseases and adequate evaluation of functional and pathological changes of organ systems is challenging task that cannot be achieved through ordinary clinical process. They need a specialized approach that includes detailed analysis of biological materials such as, blood urine for chemicals, perfect evaluation of organ functioning and even audiometry measurements for nerve conduction velocity etc. The detection of occupational diseases also requires extra special medical equipment, mostly computerized analytical system, for precise results.
It was in this background and keeping in view the increasing number of insured population getting exposed to occupation risks that the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation had decided to establish four Zonal Occupational Diseases Centres at New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkatta & Chennai as referral institutions for early detection and prevention of occupational diseases.
